Student Showcase: Basketball Player Shot Analysis App

We are proud to present this student showcase submission from Max Bolger. Max is graduating this year with a degree in computational data science from Hamline University. For his project, he built a WNBA player shot analysis app. Check out the video presentation below and try out the app here. The project GitHub is here.

The app runs an analysis on any of the 990 players to ever attempt a field goal in WNBA history (1997-2021). It leverages results from a machine learning model that uses 16 features to calculate predicted probabilities for the result of any given shot and turns it into an interactive UI. Insights include over/underperforming players, player strengths and weaknesses, and more.

Thank you to Max for this awesome submission. Learn more and submit a project for our Student Showcase at this link.
