The College of Science and Engineering at St. Cloud State University has a keen interest in expanding and strengthening program offerings in Data Science/Data Analytics. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics invites applications for a tenure-track leadership position in Data Science/Analytics. The successful candidate should be committed to excellence in teaching and research, and dedicated to preparing the next generation of data scientists. The department has a vibrant and growing Statistics major with concentrations in Data Science, Data Analytics, and Mathematical Statistics supported by seven statistics faculty. The successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will be to provide instruction in, and leadership for, data science and data analytics programs in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, including leading the development and implementation of a data-centric graduate program. Support for the Statistics and Data Analytics Consulting Center is also expected. Course delivery may include face-to-face, online, and hybrid approaches. The successful candidate will be effective in the recruitment and retention of students and the development of partnerships with both industry and government.
The successful candidate is expected to establish and maintain a professional goal to become an outstanding teacher-scholar through the use of research-based, best-practices pedagogy. They are expected to teach using both in-person and alternative delivery methods such as online and hybrid. They will regularly engage in ongoing professional development and innovation opportunities focused on pedagogical growth.

- Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, or related area
M.S. in Data Science, Statistics or related area, followed by at least 5 years of data science industry experience
- Demonstrated potential to be an effective instructor utilizing best-teaching practices
- Significant training in statistics
- Strong computing skills relevant to data science
- Excellent communication skills
- Evidence of demonstrated ability to teach and work with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds
- Ph.D. in Data Science or Statistics
- Data Science/Analytics industry experience
- Demonstrated abilities to forge academic and industrial partnerships
- Credentials, expertise, and leadership skills to become a leader in the program
- Experience with teaching and assessment of on-line (credentialed) courses
